The Sisterhood of the Travelling Sketchbook is being launched by Anne Lawson after she and fellow blogger Kate from North Queensland met up in Melbourne recently and I am really hoping to be one of the recipients of this wondrous travelling sketchbook. Read a bit more about the idea on Anne’s blog.
Sadly I haven’t had the chance to meet this creative group in person but they all do beautiful and different creative things and I really hope I can be part of this amazing idea.
I wrote then
Jake Seliger got me started down this track. His portrait of the humble notebook; the light, mobile, ‘look at me out and about’ essential companion to the poet, the artist, the scientist, the philosopher. The portable, personal dream catcher, the slate of insights, plans, lists, scribbles, drafts, snippets.
The post looked at all the desks people work at and their sketchbooks and notebooks, like Leanne Thomas’ lovely studio desk.
I did try a bit of mail-art which is a similar idea where art is created and then posted on and added to and sent on again or sent back. Unfortunately I only got as far as the art creation part and didn’t quite go to the next step of going to the post office.
But the sketchbook being sent around the world is a really beautiful thought – I hope lots of people can link up (and brothers can link in too of course) and the works can be posted (digitally) on the way as well as added to the real hold in your hand book.
If you would like to be added to the Sisterhood let Anne know ..:>
