My clever friend Amy (exhibiting as Hola Holga) opened the show of her most recent sojourn in Cuba in Melbourne tonight.
Her work captures the richness of the Cuban street – a natural draw for photographers.
Amy brings to life not just that distinct Havana palette of blues, virdigris and chalky yellow – she describes being unable to separate the people from the place.
Her pictures are enlivened with people in motion and at rest – giving a sensitivity to the tempo of the city.
More about Amy’s work can be read at http://www.holaholga.com/
Amy’s work is currently showing at 1 Spring St, Melbourne (enter off Flinders Lane) until 26 November.
Wonderful work!

Thanks Mae – she’s a clever one this one. This exhibition was really well placed and her work goes from strength to strength.

Great compositions, they look more like paintings than photos.

She’s a really clever artist with a great eye. Amy has the photos printed professionally but does all the rest of the finishing herself so the images have a real crafted finish. The timber board underneath gives the photographs a beautiful texture.
